The River by Edward Laning, 1942
The Section of Painting and Sculpture of the Works
Progress Administration commissioned John Follinsbee to complete
these murals for the Courtroom. They depict scenes of trade and
traffic along the Ohio River, highlighting its primary role in the
economy and daily life of Paducah. Early Town depicts an early street
scene at the foot of Court Street, now Kentucky Avenue, just after
the building of the first Courthouse.
About the Artist:
John Fulton Follinsbee was born March 14, 1892, in Buffalo, NY;
lived in New Hope, PA; and died May 10, 1972. Studied: Art Students
League.
